Fashion has for long been known as being the trendiest aspect there ever can be in life. What is in fashion today may not be tomorrow and so on. Speaking of fashion, the wedding dress is something that has carried the most attention compared to other clothing since time immemorial. A wedding dress carries a lot of importance especially in a wedding ceremony as it is designed to give all the attention in the event to only one woman; the bride. Getting the right wedding dresses is therefore very important for any bride-to-be. There exists lots of superb and attractive wedding dresses in the market.  For instance, ball gown wedding dresses and halter style wedding dresses, just to name a few that can make your day amazing. These dresses are renowned all over the world for their elegance and beauty and they surely can spice up your big  day.

When it comes to the wedding dress color, well, this is a very interesting topic. Some people choose colors with respect to religion or personal beliefs whereas some pick the dress color based on personal tastes and preferences. Christian marriages for instance are mainly characterized by white wedding dresses which apparently are a symbol to represent the bride’s chastity. When it comes to personal taste, pink is a color that seems to be taking over in this view. The color pink is often understood as the color of femininity, romance and pure love, which is exactly what every girl wants in her marriage. For this reason, pink bridal gowns are gaining popularity among the brides to be all over the globe!!

The shape of your wedding dress also matters a lot since as we all know, every woman wants to have an attractive shape. For instance, if one is looking for a whimsical shape dress, ball gown wedding dresses can satisfy you. The adaptability of their design allows you to wear them in different ceremonies. These dresses have laid down a new craze in the fashion industry. People who have gotten used to these dresses can hardly think about going for other ones because of flexibility in its style. You can research online about these dresses and see whether they trigger your desires.

However, as we stated earlier, tastes and preferences differ. The first step to getting a great wedding dress is first doing some soul searching as the bride to be and picture how you would wish to look like on your big day. You can always get any type of dress you want in this fashion industry thanks to those creative minds behind the scenes that makes it all possible. You can consult wedding gown professionals who have been in the wedding design industry for many years. These designers will listen to your specifications and preferences and then craft a custom made wedding dress for you just like you want it. This is the best option for those women who don’t want to wear the ready-made wedding dresses and want to have their own unique dress designed from scratch.

The Wedding Dress: Look Gorgeous Without Breaking the Bank

After the initial shock and overwhelming joy of He actually asked me to marry him! passes, what is the first thought on almost every bride-to-be’s mind?

The wedding dress.  Well, at least it was on mine.

And with thousands of styles – and new trends emerging daily – how is a girl to pick her dream dress without bankrupting the rest of her wedding budget?  It's going to take some research, resolve, and a whole lot of patience.

Research.  Let the fun begin. You finally get to go to the store and buy those wedding magazines you’ve been ogling!  Go do it!  Since the top designers will advertise in many of the major magazines, you won’t need to buy too many; so save yourself a few bucks and only buy a few.  Make sure to preview them in the store to make sure they’re heavily laden with wedding dress ads.  Also, many websites are free to visit and do a fantastic job of covering wedding dress styles and trends.

Resolve.  You have to stick to your guns here.  I would’ve given just about anything to wear one of those ethereal Demetrios gowns – but I obviously didn’t since we actually afforded to get married!  Those magazines you picked up are going to tempt you with every designer choice out there, but you have to plant your feet firmly on the ground and resolve to use those ideas as a guideline to help you find your style.  There are so many beautiful dresses out there that are made to reflect the overall trends you’ll find in the wedding magazines.  So hang in there.  You can do it.  Remember, the goal is to marry your man - not spend a fortune on a dress.

Patience.  You’ll need a lot of this.  I didn’t try on an overwhelming number of dresses, but I remember being notably frustrated thinking that I’d not find “the one” in my price range.  Guess what: I did!  Try large stores, chains, small stores, and boutiques.  Or, if you or a relative is especially gifted, try a thrift store or fabric store.  You can find some beautiful designer patterns at fabric stores and may even be able to find a vintage dress with good potential at a thrift store, then modify and modernize it to your taste.  Options are endless.  You just have to be patient and determined to find the one that will work for you.

Most of all, enjoy your search.  There's something exhilarating about finding a gorgeous wedding dress and being able to revel in the accomplishment of spending less than some girls do on their prom dress.  Me?  I found what I thought was a timeless classic - and for about $300.  See? Six years later and I'm still proud!  Have fun and good luck!

My husband and me. I chose a simple strapless style with a fuller skirt - but not too full. And the clincher for me was a the small detail of a sash around the waist with a pretty brooch. You can't see it here, but there's a better picture of it later.
The girls. We were so lucky to have such a wonderfully helpful, loving and fun wedding party! Not to mention gorgeous, girls!
Not too flattering a picture, but you can see the detail of the dress - and a little fun, too.
Our whole wedding party. Handsome as can be.

Bridesmaid Dresses

When asked to be in a wedding - after we tell our best friend how much we love them – our next thought is....what will the dress look like and how much will it cost?!  Bridesmaid dresses have a bad reputation (scenes from 27 Dresses flood the mind).  In truth, most dresses are quite beautiful!  Gone are the days when hats were every bridesmaid’s dreaded accessory, because today we welcome mix and match styles and cocktail dresses.

A girlfriend of mine is in two weddings this spring, and my mouth gaped open when I heard the price of her first bridesmaid dress…$250.00!  I understand that we all have dreams of that special day, but when those dreams have you AND your bridesmaids eating Ramen noodles for the next year, I think it is time the dream changes.  Many of us get married in our 20s, and the sad truth is we are busy paying off student loans and trying to land our dream job, not stashing away hundreds for bridesmaid dresses.

When planning my own wedding, I wanted to keep the budget under $100.00.  We were planning the wedding in just 5 months so there were limitations with ordering from a bridal boutique; the dresses were not only over my budget, but most required an extra charge to “rush” the order so they would arrive before our wedding day.  With the boutiques crossed off our list, my mom and I set out to the department stores.  Within a few weeks we found a navy dress in each girl’s size and a price tag of just $50.00.

So what should you keep in mind when picking out your bridesmaid dresses? Your girlfriends!  If your friends have more money than they know what to do with, then you can probably be free in your choices.  If they don’t, be sensitive to that.  If the    J Crew dress is a necessary part of the wedding, consider paying for the bridesmaid dresses, or even paying a portion of it so the price isn’t quite as high.  Think outside the box and visit local stores, department stores, or even choose a color and let your bridesmaids pick out their own dresses. Have fun with it!

Ultimately, THIS is what your wedding should be about! When the wedding ceremony is over, there is nothing better than seeing your best friends enjoying themselves...
and celebrating YOUR LOVE!!
At my girlfriend's wedding on Easter Weekend - such a beautiful color on her bridesmaids
Christina Hendricks' wedding was featured in one of my bridal magazines and I fell in love with her unique bridesmaid dresses. She had each girl pick out her own vintage dress and accessories! What an awesome way to show off her own personality while allowing the individuality of her bridesmaids to shine brightly.

I love the navy dresses you chose - AND how you were price conscious for the sake of your bridesmaids. Great advice for brides-to-be and mothers of the brides!
